Transition to Senior Phase

This is an explanation of the transitioning process for currently enrolled students completing the Adolescent Program (Yr. 9) at the end of 2017 who are looking for entry into the Senior Phase (Yr. 10) at the beginning of 2018.

Term 1 2017

  • Week 3 – Invite to the Information Evening Invitation. The invitation will be resent for the Information Evening and Overview of the Adolescent Program and Senior Phase which will be held in Week 2 of Term 1. These invites will be specifically sent out to parents of students completing Senior Primary (Yr. 6) and the Adolescent Program (Yr. 9) at the end of the year.

  • Week 4 – Information Evening and Overview of the Montessori Adolescent Program and Senior Phase. Specifically designed for parents of students completing Senior Primary (Yr. 6) and the Adolescent Program (Yr. 9). A brief tour of the environments and land lab, and general overview of both the Adolescent and Senior Phase Programs.

6pm to 8pm, Wednesday, February 15.

  • Week 5 – Students Introductory Visit of the Senior Phase. 8 and Yr. 9 students will be invited to attend a tour of the Senior Phase hub. An information session will be presented by the Head of the Senior Phase.  An information sharing and Q&A session will be hosted by recently transitioned and current Yr. 10 students.

1pm to 2pm, Wednesday, February 22.

  • Week 6 – Twilight Land Lab Tour and Information Sessions Invitation Sent Out.An invitation will be sent for the Land Lab Tour and Detailed Adolescent and Senior Phase Program Information Sessions which will be held in Week 6 of Term 1. These invites will be specifically sent out to parents of students completing Senior Primary (Yr. 6) and the Adolescent Program (Yr. 9) at the end of the year.

  • Week 7 – Twilight Land Lab Tour and Detailed Senior Phase Program Information Sessions.All parents of the Adolescent Community will be invited to attend, however this session is specifically for parents (and students) completing Year 9 at the end of the year. This session will present a detailed look at the Senior Phase Program, the subject disciplines, daily schedules, etc. Parents will have the opportunity to meet all of the Senior Phase staff, and each of them will present certain aspects of the syllabus. The entry process for students looking at joining the Senior Phase Program will also be explained. This process includes, interviews, essay questions, presenting portfolios of work etc.

5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, March 8.

  • Week 8 – Detailed Information Session of the Senior Phase Program for Students. Yr. 8 and Yr. 9 students will visit the Senior Phase hub for a detailed information session. The session will explain key components of the Senior Phase Program, including the daily schedule, subject disciplines, options at the end of Yr. 12, etc. The entry process for students looking at joining the Senior Phase Program will also be explained.  This process includes, interviews, essay questions, presenting portfolios of work etc.

1pm to 2pm, Wednesday, March 15.

  • Week 9 – Letter Sent Out to Parents of Students Completing Year 9. A letter explaining the entry process for the Senior Phase Program will be sent out to all parents of Yr. 9 students.  The letter will include all information regarding what is required, the due dates and how to book the students interviews online.

Term 2 2017

  • Week 1 – Student Questions and Essay Sent Out.The student questions and essay topic will be sent to all students completing Year 9.  It is a requirement that these are completed and returned prior to the student’s interview.

  • Week 4 – School Tour and Information Session for the Adolescent Community and Senior Phase.Montessori International College holds two tours each year for prospective parents interested in finding out more information about the Adolescent Community and Senior Phase.  These tours are primarily for parents who have lodged enrolment enquiries, however all current parents of the school are also invited to attend.  The tour will give an insight into MIC’s secondary school program, provide an opportunity to ask questions, and allow you to see the environment.

9am – 10.30am, Thursday, May 11.

  • Week 5 – Student Questions and Essay Due. The student questions and essay topic will be due at the end of Week 5.

Due by Friday, May 19.

  • Week 6 – Week 1 of Student Interviews. Students completing Year 9 at the end of the year will be invited to attend interviews with the Head of the Senior Phase Program. Parents will also be invited to attend the interviews. Students will need to bring samples of their work to the interview. The student questions and essay topic will need to be sent prior to the interview so that they can be viewed beforehand. Expression of Interest forms to attend the Senior Phase the following year will be handed out at the interview. *Interviews will need to be booked online in advance. There are various dates available, there are limited time slots allocated to each date.

Monday, May 22; Tuesday, May 23; Thursday, May 25.

  • Week 7 – Week 2 of Student Interviews.

Monday, May 29; Tuesday, May 30; Thursday, June 1.

  • Week 9 – Expression of Interest Forms Due.  Expression of Interest forms to attend the Senior Phase the following year will be due prior to the end of Term 2.

Due by Friday, June 16.

Term 3 2017

  • Week 2 – Notification Sent Out.Confirmation of transition letter or request for follow up meeting letter will be sent out to parents (and students) who attended interviews and lodged expression of interest forms for entry into the Senior Phase the following year.

Sent out by Friday, July 21.

  • Weeks 3 to 6 – Follow Up Meetings.The Head of the Senior Phase will arrange and attend follow up meetings with parents as required. These meetings are a forum for feedback, discussion and follow up of the student’s transition application.

Monday, July 24 to Friday, August 18, as required.

  • Week 9 – Notice of Intention to Leave. Notice of intention to leave forms will be required for all students not returning to MIC. If the student will not be returning the following year then this form is due prior to the end of Term 3. These forms can be downloaded from the school’s website.

Term 4 2017

  • Week 3 – Transition Visit Day 1.Students transitioning from the Adolescent Community will be invited to attend half day transition visits to the Senior Phase. New students to the MIC community who are starting in the Senior Phase the following year will also be invited to attend these transition visits. On transition visit Day 1 the students will spend time experiencing the academic program.

Tuesday, October 17.

  • Week 4 – Transition Visit Day 2.On transition visit Day 2 the students will spend time experiencing the community work program.

Friday, October 27.

  • Week 8 – Information Evening Invitation Sent Out. An invitation will be sent out for an Information Evening and Overview of the Adolescent Program and Senior Phase which will be held in Week 2 of Term 1. These invites will be specifically sent out to parents of students completing Senior Primary (Yr. 6) and the Adolescent Program (Yr. 9) the following year (2018).
