Why are you involved with Montessori Education?
Montessori Education has really opened my eyes to the potential of our youth. Our students are the future leaders, innovators and scientists of this world. I am involved with Montessori as I love the idea that every student has the potential to be anybody they want, they are looked at as an individual, not just a number. It’s really special to know that I am helping to contribute to their success through any role externally or internally.
What year did you commence at Montessori International College?
Commencing into a volunteering position for Imagineers in 2017, I was part of the communications team. I started teaching a one hour a week journalism workshop to Senior Primary, which really confirmed how much I loved the MIC way. (How cool is it that these remarkable students get the chance to learn what they are interested in?!)
How would you describe what you do?
Currently, I am working part-time within the communications team for the College and Imagineers. Not one day is the same, one hour I might be helping to create social media content for the Imagineers Festival, the next looking into ways to increase our communities awareness of our school through video and written communications. It’s special to be part of fostering a long-term vision for the school through the use of my degree and life experiences.
Creating a strongly connected community is something I have always thrived on, and being able to help write and craft that narrative at MIC is immensely rewarding.
What’s your favourite thing about your role?
Whilst my favourite thing about my role is using my skillset in a unique environment… I would have to say that I adore special moments with our students. My favourite memory so far is talking to a Junior Primary student about Harry Potter and discussing if it was Hermione or Ginny on the front cover of her well-loved book’s cover. Working at Montessori International College is a little bit like Harry Potter when you think about it, we really do get to make magic every day with our students, staff and wider community.
